The giant Christmas tree is the latest attraction in the Rockefeller Center at this year’s Christmas season. The Christmas tree is New York City’s crowd-pleaser on Christmas days. Thousands of tourists come to to visit the place, creating big traffic around the area.

The erection of giant Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center was started in December 24, 1931 by construction workers, who were then clearing the place for new construction of building. The first decoration of the said Christmas tree was made of tin cans hung around the Christmas tree. Since then the said Christmas tree erection became a tradition, and became more lavish with giant tree decorated by thousands of expensive Christmas lights.

This year’s Christmas tree was built above the Rockefeller skating rink, where the famous golden statue of Prometheus (god of fire) is located. Hundreds of skaters every night at the rink adds fun to the viewing of this glittering Christmas tree.

It’s been a long time that I’ve never posted a blog on this site. You know, I thought it’s easy to manage 7 personal web sites. Now, I’ve realized, managing even one web site is hard. Currently, I’m redesigning the main HTML page, or the home page of this site (http://bigapplecity.com), and the 5000 plus HTML content pages of this site. Thanks to an image web page creator that I currently own, I could easily redesign my pages, without having to be an expert in HTML codes. Believe it or not, I just finished 1200 HTML pages since last Saturday – five days ago. That’s huge, right?

Ordinary web site owner could probably just redesign 5 to 10 pages in a day. In my case, I’m currently redesigning 240 to 250 HTML pages per day. Believe me, that’s still slow to me, since I’m using a template, where I just insert codes and press a button of the program that creates the HTML pages. These finished pages are already in the server of my web site provider. But they’re not available for viewing yet by surfers, until I finish redesigning all the pages I wanted to redesign. Once I finished redesigning all the pages, I’ll finally redesign the main page or default page, that will be the main gate to these thousands of HTML pages.

Probably, by next week, you’ll see the new faces of the pages I’m referring to. But don’t expect them to be gorgeous and sexy in the eyes of a surfer. They’ve been redesigned by me for search engine optimization exposure. That’s the widely talked about strategy of making your web site findable by surfers, once they search in Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc., using key terms in the search box. It’s currently number one with the key terms “big apple city.” That’s because they’re the words used in the domain name of this site – bigapplecity.com . My main objective is to make bigapplecity.com number one in the search engines, if the surfers use the key terms “New York City,” “cheapest way to visit New York City,” “New York City Photo Gallery,” “visit New York City,” or “cheap plane tickets to New York City.”

Of course, there’s another way to make to make bigapplecity.com popular, if not number one. That’s through your help, by linking this site fromyour site if you have your own web site; or by recommending this site to your friends. So, I plead to you my dear reader, to do this. In return, I’ll not stop posting pictures of New York City here, so, you’ll enjoy the city that never sleeps (or the Big Apple) without spending a penny.

Next, I’ll show you the Trinity Church located at Broadway. I’ve learned from history that the graveyard in this church is the final resting place of Alexander Hamilton and Robert Fulton. This church was featurized as the hiding place of golds and treasures in the movie “National Treasure,” starring Nicholas Cage.

As we walk towards the ground zero, we will pass by a red, giant cube at the front of Harry Helmsley building. The City Hall, which is New York City Mayor’s center of administration is located at Broadway and Park Row Streets.

New York City’s most visited tourist spot is the Times Square with an average visitors of 45 millions per year. This place is famous for the New Year’s ball that drops every December 31 midnight. This activity is being watched by thousands of crowd from New York City and from other neighboring places outside the Big Apple. Aside from these thousand of revelers at the square, this New Year’s ball dropping is also watched by millions of television viewers from all over the world.

The Times Square was named after the Times Building, office of the New York Times in April 1904. What makes this place hot for visitors are the spectacular giant billboards of advertisements, dancing lights glittering at night, and giant buildings reaching the skies. Big Apple’s Broadway shows are found in this area.

One of the places well-visited by tourists in New York City is the Rockefeller Center. It’s located in midtown Manhattan covering the blocks of 48 Street to 51 Street, and 5th Avenue to 7th Avenue. The center was originally owned by the Rockefeller family, but was later sold to group of companies owned by Jerry Speyer and Goldman Sachs. The Rockefeller center is one of the historic national landmarks of America. From here stands the second tallest building now in New York, Rockefeller Building, and one of the best places to go for aerial views of New York City.

During Christmas season, a traffic congestion is a problem in midtown Manhattan. This is caused by tourists from all over the world visiting the Rockefeller Center to view the tallest Christmas Tree in New York. At the foot of the giant Christmas tree is the giant Prometheus sculpture and a skating rink – attractions that add to the thousands of lightbulbs adorned on the tree.

The NBC studio is located also at this center. Of course, we should not forget that the famous Radio Music Hall is located also in this complex, at the 50th Street and Avenue of the Americas.

Anyway, here’s my Big Apple photo blog for the week – a collection of spring flowers at Macy’s, Herald Square Branch. Just like other special occasions sponsored regularly by this giant shopping mall, flower exhibition is regularly held at this place - starting on the first week of the spring season.

It’s Springtime in New York City, but the coldness still feels like Winter. Last week, I had the time to revisit downtown and other beautiful places of the city that never sleeps. Battery Park is the southern end of the Manhattan island. From here, you’ll find the South Ferry Port where you could ride boats going to Staten Island and Jersey City. This park has a lot of monuments and landmarks good for picture-taking. If you are saving from your visit in this city, you don’t really need to go to Liberty Island to see the Statue of Liberty. Here, you could see the statue in the middle of blue waters.A US Army-Navy memorial could be found in this place. Then, as you walk towards north, you’ll find Castle Clinton, which served as a fortress long time ago. This serves now as a place to buy tickets for the cruise going to the Liberty Island. Just a stone-throw from the fortress, you’ll find the Korean War Memorial.Few blocks from the Battery Park is the Wall Street area. This is the tourist spot that’s well-guarded by armed securities, including military personnel of the government. Just across the NYC Stock Exchange Building is Federal Union Building – the place where the first President, George Washington made his inaugural oath-taking. The Trinity Church compound along Broadway Avenue, is the place where Alexander Hamilton (January 11, 1755 or 1757 – July 12, 1804), one of the Founding Fathers, and Robert Fulton (November 14, 1765 – February 24, 1815), inventor of steamboat were buried.

As you step forward towards the Ground Zero, you will realize that it’s time to eat for lunch, if you started visiting Battery Park at 9:00 AM in the morning. Just in front of the Helmsley building, you’ll find lines of food carts that are serving really good and cheap food. They’re hot and really yummy. Buy them “to go” and take the food to the park across the road. With the Spring around eating this yummy food at an open park is really great. Finish eating, and start your next journey for the afternoon, towards the Ground Zero. (To be continued on my next blog.)
